Abstract

The absence of a person due to death by suicide or the suffering caused by numerous acts of self-mutilation and suicidal behavior favors the development of psychic suffering in the family of this individual, which can persist for years, in addition to causing similar events in these family members in the long term. term. In this way, knowing the families of people with suicidal behavior, or who commit/committed self-mutilation and/or suicide is of fundamental importance to build public health policies with a view to promoting mental health for these families, since it is an urgent demand. society and government bodies, especially during the COVID-19 pandemic. Objectives: To characterize the sociodemographic profile of families whose members self-mutilated, tried to commit suicide or committed suicide; Identify the risk and protective factors of the person in the context of suicide, suicide attempt and/or self-mutilation during the Covid-19 pandemic, from the perspective of the family member; Knowing and analyzing the possible motivations that led to suicide and self-mutilation according to the understanding of family members. This is a qualitative-quantitative, descriptive-analytical-correlational and cross-sectional study, whose population will be families from each macro-region of Brazil. The collection will be conducted through GoogleForms, available on social networks (Facebook, WhatsApp, Instagram); the data will be automatically inserted in a database, with double entry, in a Microsoft Excel spreadsheet, in order to validate the identification of possible typing errors. They will be processed by the Statistical Package for the Social Sciences (SPSS), version 25.0 and Iramuteq, version 07 software. Descriptively analyzed by calculating frequencies and Standard Deviation (SD). As for the correlation between the answers and the sociodemographic variables, the Spearman coefficient will be used. To verify the association between sociodemographic variables and scale factors, the KrusKal-Wallis Test will be applied. Statistical significance was defined at p<0.05 and a confidence level of 95%. The study was approved by the Research Ethics Committee of the University of São Paulo School of Nursing. Expected results: It is expected that the results will contribute with suggestions for the mental health policy documents at the three levels of management, including specific actions for the care of families of people who commit self-harm and/or suicide, as well as contribute to reduce the impacts of stigma (diseases and injuries) on the mental health of these family members. The results will be disseminated at national and international scientific events and through publications in journals with a selective editorial policy, with at least three high-impact articles.
