Abstract

In general, the choice of testing technique to be adopted in a concurrent software project remains based on the knowledge of the tester and often does not consider all the testing techniques available. In a previous project, we have defined a framework for supporting the systematic selection of concurrent software testing techniques. For this, a characterization scheme was proposed and implemented in the tool SeleCTT. This scheme is composed of a set of attributes that considers characteristics of concurrent programs and that are used to calculate which of these attributes are suitable for a developing project and, therefore, assist in the selection of the test technique. The definition of these attributes was done based on literature research and the application of a survey with experts from the concurrent software testing area. This research project will extend the previously defined attributes, taking into account other features that may be considered, for example, information from previous similar projects. Considering that the testing techniques are complementary, another goal is to allow a set of test techniques to be selected, not just one. In order to meet this objective, a systematic review will be conducted with the purpose of identifying the state-of-the-art of the selection of software testing techniques. We will also study how to use information from previous projects available in the SeleCTT tool to support the selection of testing techniques for new development projects. The new attributes developed will be incorporated into the SeleCTT tool extending its functionality. It is expected to specify project attributes that can be used to improve the existing recommendation system in the SeleCTT tool and to propose ways of combining testing techniques, contributing to industry and academia, in the context of selection and combination of testing techniques.
