Abstract

Background and objective: Renal transplantation is the unique treatment capable of curing end-stage renal disease and is a therapeutic modality that significantly influences morbidity and mortality of the patients. The metabolic and electrolytic changes associated to the different crystalloid solutions infused during renal transplantation are already known but their influence on the incidence of delayed graft function in cadaveric renal transplantation has not been studied. In the present randomized controlled trial we will investigate the influence of different crystalloid solutions on the incidence of delayed graft function and the electrolytic and acid-basic balance in patients undergoing cadaveric renal transplantation. Methods: ninety-eight patients from both sexes who will undergo cadaveric renal transplantation will be selected. The patients will be randomly allocated to one of two groups of 49 individuals that will differ on the solution used to intraoperative volume replacement: plasma-lyte or normal saline. The protocol for volume infusion will be the same for all patients. The primary outcome will be the incidence of delayed graft function. The secondary outcomes will be the duration of the delayed graft function and the metabolic and electrolytic changes at the end of the surgery.
