Abstract

The commercialization of the fish popularly named "pequira" fish (Pisces: Osteichthyes) is a very common practice in the Southwest region of São Paulo, more precisely in the municipality of Campina do Monte Alegre (CMA). However, the literature presents several different species designated by the same popular name. As a result of this problem, the following project aims the genetic identification of the unknown fish species (s) being treated as "pequira", in the Paranapanema Basin. For this, fish will be purchased at commercial establishments (CMA district) for morphological and genetic identification. For genetic identification, the mitochondrial markers cit-b, 16S and COI will be used. The results received will be analyzed in the BLAST and BOLD programs. The results of identification by both identification methods will be compared and discussed. In this way, it is expected that the identification of the species(s) can be clarified, which is of fundamental importance the development of researches, for the accomplishment of mitigating activities for the conservation, knowledge of the regional biodiversity and as aid for future projects in the area.
