Abstract

In the 1920s in Brazil a debate arose about education and insertion of a new teaching model called Escola Nova. In relation to Geography teaching, we had the contributions of Carlos Miguel Delgado de Carvalho, Antonio Firmino Proença, João Augusto de Toledo, among others teachers who expressed their escolanovistas perspectives through the teaching manuals. The escolanovista movement brought repercussions in the way of thinking about the Geography teaching in schools. This thought influenced a generation of renowned professors who graduated in the course of Geography and History of the Faculdade de Filosofia, Letras e Ciências (FFLC) of the Universidade de São Paulo (USP), among them Aziz Nacib Ab'Sáber. We will highlight the contribution of Aziz to the Geography teaching. The renowned professor graduated with a degree in Geography in 1944, he was a teacher at the then secondary school, before becoming a professor at the Pontifícia Universidade Católica (PUC-SP) and professor of Physical Geography at (USP). In 1975 Aziz produced the didactic collection denominated Formas de Relevo, whose analysis we propose to do. The research aims to understand the didactic proposal of Aziz Nacib Ab'Sáber, for the Geography teaching in the high school, contained in the "Projeto Brasileiro para Ensino de Geografia" (1975), to analyse the whole didactic texts from Formas de Relevo: basic text, teacher's guide and practical work, and identify the didactic orientations proposed by the author with regard to selection contents and Geography teaching methodology.
