Abstract

Al-based quasicrystalline phase former alloys (QC) have a high mechanical strength and wear resistance, especially at high temperatures, which make them promising in applications as molds and dies. For the formation of the QC phase, a high cooling rate must be imposed on the material, usually being obtained only in powder or ribbons. Among the consolidation methods of this material, there is the hot isostatic pressing (HIP) process, which applies isostatic pressure and temperature during compaction. No study was carried out on the application of HIP to the Al91Fe4Cr3Ti2 alloy QC phase. Thus, the present project aims to produce by HIP, characterize and understand the microstructure of recycled quasicrystalline phase former Al91Fe4Cr3Ti2 alloy. For this, samples will be manufactured by HIP, being characterized by X-ray diffraction, differential scanning calorimetry, optical microscopy, scanning electron microscopy and density measurements by Archimedes method.
