Abstract

Research has shown contrast between the favorable evidences about the importance of Physical Activities (PAs) and the high prevalence of sedentarism/insufficient levels of practice. One way to study why this happens can be through an evolutionary psychology approach with emphasis on the motivational aspects regarding different physical activities practice and its relationships with personality. This work aims to test some external and internal factors (e.g. sex, type of physical activity, personality and sexual strategy) that are supposed to influence motivations for practice of different physical activities. We expect for example, that motivations for physical activity linked to aappearance will be stronger in women, whilist the motivations linked to sociability will prevail in men. Materials and Methods: Through electronic means, we distributed a link to a survey for potential participants. Participants were asked to consent with participation, and then filled in a battery of questionnaires, including sociodemographic data, motivations for physical activities, and measures of personality (Big Five, narcissism, self-esteem) and sexuality (sociossexuality). Analysis: After basic treatment, data will be analyzed in two moments: first (completed) through multivariate analysis of covariance, directed to relations between sex and type of physical activity in motivations for practice; and second, correlation and regression tests will be applied on scales.
