Abstract

In 2005, the discovery at the RHIC accelerator of a new state of matter was announced, the Quark-Gluon Plasma. It is the most perfect fluid ever created in the laboratory, the hottest, with highest vorticity and unlike expected, it is strongly coupled. The greatest challenge for the coming years is to create it in other conditions for temperature and pressure, i.e. to explore the QGP phase diagram as well as to find the critical point. Several laboratories and particle accelerators are involved in this search (RHIC in the USA, FAIR in Germany, NICA in Russia and perhaps J-PARC in Japan). There is also an intense theoretical activity (in particular BEST in the USA and HIC for FAIR in Germany). The goal of this Master's project is to study a recently proposed equation of state and apply it to one of the most promising signals of the critical point: the net-proton number fluctuations. (AU)
