Abstract

Microbial biofilms are defined as communities of cells adhered to a surface and also to each other, which are surrounded by a matrix of extracellular polymer substances produced by them in order to guarantee their survival. These biofilms may consist of one or more species of microorganisms depending on their duration and their location being in general bacteria and / or fungi. Infections caused by Candida albicans are usually associated with the formation of biofilms, among them are superficial infections of the skin popularly known as candidiasis and systemic infections called stomatitis, which are developed from implanted medical devices and these are of high severity , due to its great capacity of resistance to the antifungal treatments, being, therefore, a challenge for the current studies. In these research, the objective is to find a solution to combat the formation of infections and mechanisms to prevent the development of biofilm. This work seeks to analyze the antimicrobial activity of the F18 bioglass against Candida albicans, but also to examine its action statistically through the CFU/mL count and to compare it with the activity of bioglass such as Biosilicate and 45S5, establishing the objective of combating infections caused by C. albicans through the proposed method.
