Craniocervical flexion test in women with migraine associated or not with cervical pain

Abstract

The migraine is a primary, chronic and disabling headache, in which, patients often have chronic neck pain, in addition to various musculoskeletal cervical dysfunctions. It is known that migraine patients demonstrate a worse performance in the clinical evaluation of the function of the deep cervical flexors muscles, but it is not established whether this performance is related to the presence of neck pain. The objective of this study is to verify the performance of deep cervical flexors muscles on craniocervical flexion test in migraine patients, and verify if the result is associated with migraine, chronic neck pain or both conditions. 100 women will be assessed in the range of 18 to 55 years subdivided into four groups: Group 1 = migraine patients without chronic neck pain; Group 2 = migraine patients with chronic neck pain; Group 3 = individuals with chronic neck pain and Group 4 = control individuals. The patients will be evaluated for deep neck flexor muscles through the Craniocervical Flexion Test and they will answer the Migraine Disability Assessment (MIDAS) and the Neck Disability Index (NDI) questionnaries. Our findings may elucidate the role of cervical pain in the performance of cervical muscles in patients with migraine and collaborate for the assessment and treatment of these patients. (AU)
