Abstract

In the Ribeira Belt, between the States of São Paulo and Paraná, Brazil, metasedimentary rocks from Turvo-Cajati Formation crop out. There are some recent studies that point to distinct metamorphic field gradients in the same unit. The baric regime in partially molten granulite facies rocks indicates pressure above 9 kbar (Faleiros, 2008), whereas amphibolite facies rocks record a barrovian-type metamorphism with pressure around 6 kbar (Ricardo, 2017). Both rocks are assigned to the Turvo-Cajati Formation, although the relationship between these two lithotectonic sub-units is not well defined. The present study aims to detail the barrovian metamorphism described by Ricardo, 2017, to refine the isograds mapped by the author and to establish the temperature and pressure conditions of the metamorphism that affect those rocks. Furthermore, the study intends to use petrochronology to obtain metamorphic events' age in monazite grains and compare them to the available data in the literature of the rocks studied by Faleiros, 2008 that points to metamorphic age of 589 ± 12 Ma and 584 ± 4 Ma (Faleiros et al., 2011; Faleiros et al., 2016). With this, the project will seek for a wide sight about these sub-units and their tectono-metamorphic evolution in the context of the Turvo-Cajati Formation metamorphism, its meaning within the Curitiba Domain and, consequently, inside the Ribeira Belt.
