Abstract

This project aims to analyse the relation of the photographer Claudia Andujar towards the Yanomani indians, from the point of view of their xamanic ritual images. Mostly taken between 1971 and 1977, these photos carry esthetic characteristics through wich we may seize the complexity of the Yanomami's values and beliefs, closely tied to the xamanism. The Yanomamis worldview is woven by xamanism and therefore the understanding of their way of thinking opens the way for accessing Andujar's photos as the result of a shared aproach and transformation. This relationship started in 1971 to nowadays, but it took diferent forms over the years. Thus tracing this lifelong path and comparing it with the events that modified Yanomami's way of life allow us to situate the condition of the images, according to the main periods that marked the relation between the photographer and the indians.
