Abstract

Coordinated by Prof. Dr. Omar A. El Seoud-IQ-USPThis Thematic Project aims to rationalize, in molecular terms, the interactions between solutes and pure solvents or their binary mixtures and the application of this knowledge in the improvement of chemical processes of interest. Preferably green solvents with low environmental impact will be used; for example, water, esters of carbonic acid and ionic liquids. Among the objectives of the project, we highlight the effects of the structure of ionic liquids and molecular solvents, as well as the composition of mixtures of these, on their ability to solubilize cellulose and control their derivatization in terms of the degree of substitution and regioselectivity of the product. By the use of suitable solvents, it is intended to increase the efficiency of emission of chemiluminescent reactions with analytical relevance, and the manufacture of cellulosic nanocomposites. Suitable solvents for a certain application will be chosen from their macroscopic and microscopic properties. The microscopic parameters will be determined by studying the solvatochromic behavior of natural, semisynthetic and synthetic dyes in the media in question. The thermodynamic magnitudes of the interaction between the solute and the medium will be determined by isothermal titration calorimetry.
