Abstract This work plan aims at the study and design of an integrated coupler for few-modes fibers. The coupler will enable the interconnection between high capacity fiber systems using space division multiplexing and photonic integrated circuits. The design will derive from state-of-the-art structures and will be slowly developed to include up to the firs 6 modes of a few-modes fiber. The coupler will be evaluated numerically, however it will take into account the requirements and constraints of the fabrication technology available today, with the future objective of an experimental demonstration of the device. Therefore the candidate will already participate in clean room training and will fabricate preliminary structures during the program. (AU) | |
