Abstract

Congenital cardiopathy is one of the commonest malformations during childhood, and it is frequently associated to genetic syndromes. Children accomplished with this condition sometimes complain about dysphagia, which is in general diagnosed only after the cardiac surgery. Thus, literature often considers dysphagia as a consequence of left laryngeal nerve lesion during surgery. The present study aims to evaluate: 1) the deglutition pattern in children with cardiac malformation, before surgical procedure, comparing these children to a control group; 2) the genetic syndromes and the cardiac malformations that are most commonly associated to dysphagia before cardiac surgery; comparing the prevalence of dysphagia in children with and without genetic syndromes.
