In the last years, a change occurred in the sowing season of the maize crop, which was partly grown in the second crop after soybean cultivation. However, there is a lack of consolidated information about its response to N under these conditions. The hypothesis is that the maize crop will respond to lower rates of nitrogen, taking advantage of the residual N left by soybean, especially in corrected soil. The objective of this work is to evaluate the yield of maize and soybean crops in soils with corrected acidity, as well as soil fertility and root development of the crops under no-tillage system. The research is a continuation of a project that started in 2016, having soybean as a summer crop, from 2016 to 2019 crop seasons. The soil of the experimental area was sampled in the layers 0-10, 10-20, 20-40, 40-60, 60-80 and 80-100 before sowing soybean in 2016 and 2017 and will be sampled again in 2018 and 2019 for fertility determination. When the soybean crop reaches the R3 stage and the maize reaches the tasseling stage, soil samples at depths 0-10, 10-20, 20-40, 40-60 and 60-80 cm will also be collected for evaluation of the root system of maize and Tanzania grass in the soil profile. For the statistical analysis, the data will be submitted to analysis of variance at 5% by the F test (p> 0.05). If there is significance the means of the treatments will be compared by the t test (DMS) at 5% of significance.
