Abstract

The anaphase promoting complex (APC) is a multiprotein complex - an E3 ubiquitin ligase - involved in the ubiquitin-dependent proteolysis of cell cycle regulatory proteins, and in which we include the destruction of mitotic cyclins during the transition from metaphase to anaphase. Identification of the complete gene set encoding the APC subunits in Arabidopsis suggests that the basic processes controlled by ubiquitin-mediated proteolysis in plants are similar to those of other organisms. However, results from several groups indicate that APC has other specific functions during plant development regulation.
