Abstract

The personal archives are increasingly part of everyday user and memory institutions, which are increasingly concerned with collecting documents of private origin to integrate them into the documentary heritage of the nation. Thus, the different means employed for the acquisition of collections of social interest attract attention. Therefore, it is still an unexplored topic within Archival Science, this research aims to bring to the center of the discussion the methods of acquiring private collections used by public institutions, through a case study of the "Memorial dos Governantes" do Arquivo Público do Estado de São Paulo-APESP. To this end, this project intends to carry out a survey of the current methods used by Brazilian institutions, raising questions regarding the meaning of the documentary values entrusted in such and the formation of Brazilian documentary heritage. Based on the theoretical exploratory method based on the policies of acquisition of private collections of public institutions and bibliography of the area and later, data collection will be performed through technical visits, documentary analysis and interviews at the AESP institution. It is expected with this research to contribute a basis to develop and stimulate the exploration of the topic incorporation of documents within the Archival Science.
