Abstract

The quality of health care is directly related to patient safety, so it is believed that the nursing workload and the patient's severity are relevant to the effective development of the team. The characteristics and severity of newborns admitted to neonatal intensive care unit associated to nursing workload contributes to the clinical and management decisions of nurses working in a NICU. Thus, this study aims to identify the workload of the nursing team and associated with characteristics and severity of newborns admitted to an NICU of a hospital of high complexity. It's a single cohort study, conducted in the period from March to September 2019, which will include all newborns admitted to the NICU of a hospital of high complexity in the interior of São Paulo that remained more than 24 hours hospitalized. The data will be analyzed by means of descriptive statistics, with absolute and relative frequencies of the categorical variables presented. Other statistical tests will be indicated according to the need of the sample.
