Abstract

Paspalum is an important genus of native forage grass, predominantly polyploid and apomictic species of great genetic variability and genomic complexity. It represents a valuable resource to be explored both in the agricultural sector and as a biological model for scientific research. Especially, species of Plicatula, a taxonomically intricate botanical group, of promising species for use as forage. Recently, the UNICAMP-EMBRAPA group has made great advances in genetic-genomic knowledge for some non-model species of the genus, providing tools and a robust genomic dataset (SSR, transcriptome and RAD sequencing). From the RAD-seq dataset, this project goals to study the allelic variation of SNPs by the estimation of allelic dosage for polyploid species of the Plicatula group, in order to infer the phylogenetic relationships and delimitation of their species, besides the development of a panel of molecular markers species-specific and associated with apomixis, a characteristic highly desirable in modern agriculture. The results generated and diagnostic markers developed, will benefit the use of this valuable germplasm and the genetic breeding programs of Paspalum, resulting in the reduction of the time necessary for the launching of new cultivars and the generation of genotypes with higher added value.
