Abstract

The warehouse and general warehouses Company of São Paulo (CEAGESP) was established in 1969, with the main function of storing grains and commercializing horticultural products. CEAGESP owns the largest public warehouse network in the state of São Paulo and a complex of 13 wholesalers, being a mixed economy company linked to the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and supply (MAPA). The main objective of this research is to analyze the performance of the units of the ceagesp of Araçatuba, Presidente Prudente and São José do Rio Preto as a point of convergence of horticultural products, based on the performance of companies and agents linked to the upper and lower circuits of the urban economy. The analyses will be undertaken based on the assumptions of the theory of the two circuits of urban economics developed by Santos (1976; 1979), associated with the notion of spatial circuits of production, developed by the same author in the year 1986. In order to achieve the research objectives, documental and bibliographic research, statistical data collection and interviews with administrators and licenaries of the three CEAGESP units located in the west of the state of São Paulo, as well as with farmers and consumers who use the units of CEAGESP.
