Abstract

This project intends to study the relation between Brazilian cinema and literature from the filmmaker Paulo César Saraceni's (1933-2012) reading of the work of the writer Lucio Cardoso (1913-1968). The corpus to be analyzed in the research includes the films Porto das caixas (1962), A casa assassinada (1972) and O viajante (1999), the so-called "Trilogy of the passion". The films are result of the collaboration between authors, either of the direct partnership, such as Porto das caixas, which has the writer's plot, or the literary adaptations to the cinema of the Cardoso's masterpiece Crônica da casa assassinada (1959) and the unfinished novel O viajante (1973).
