Color and gloss stability of single increment restorative materials exposed to different acid drinks containing dyes

Abstract

Insertion of single increments is an advantageous feature in reducing the time spent in clinical procedures. Thus, the objective of this study will be to evaluate the color and brightness stability of single increment restorative materials exposed to different acid drinks containing dyes. Two types of composite resins will be evaluated, one of incremental insertion, considered as control (Filtek Z350 XT, 3M ESPE, St Paul, MN, USA) and another of single increment (Filtek Bulk Fill, 3M ESPE, St Paul, MN, USA); as well as two high viscosity glass ionomer cements, one without coat (Ketac Molar EasyMix, 3M ESPE, St Paul, MN, USA) and another with nanoparticulate coat (Equia Forte + Equia Forte Coat, GC America Inc Alsip, IL, USA). For each restorative material, 30 discs (5 mm in diameter and 4 mm in thickness) will be made, totaling 120 specimens. The surface of the specimens will be immersed in artificial saliva, considered as control (pH 7.0, Apothicário, Araçatuba, Brazil), grape juice (pH 2.93, Fruit Shoot, Maguary, Marília, Brazil) and Coca-Cola (pH 2.5, The Coca-Cola Company, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil). The color and brightness change between the different types of materials will be evaluated before and after the proposed challenges. The obtained data will be analyzed for normality and homogeneity and submitted to the specific statistical tests. The level of significance will be set at 5%.
