Abstract

This Undergraduate Research Project is linked to the Center for Metropolitan Studies (CEPID-FAPESP). The research will carry out a preliminary study on unjust health inequalities in contemporary Brazil. Using databases from the Center for Metropolitan Studies and DATASUS (public health database), the research will seek to identify the health priorities in Brazil. Special attention will be given to the social determinants of population health, as well as to the socioeconomic variables - such as gender, race, income and schooling - possibly associated with health inequalities in the country, and to the availability and allocation of public resources. One of the research objectives is to provide a detailed justification of the variables and metrics that will be used to measure health inequities - that is, unjust inequalities of health - in the country. Thus, in order to carry out this undergraduate research, the researcher will study and analyze the normative literature on the measurement of health inequalities, as well as the empirical literature, quantitative methods and statistical techniques associated with the measurement of inequalities of population health.
