Abstract

Despite the current technology available and accumulated knowledge over time, there are rare and not fully characterized minerals in Brazil. In the context of the many regions still little explored, the region of the alkaline massif in Poços de Caldas, Minas Gerais, particularly the Quarry of the Pedreira da Prefeitura, whose mineralogy is not well understood, fits in. Thus, it is proposed in this study to identify the minerals present in the available samples, aiming their characterization and recording the mineralogical variety of the site. The characterization will be made by X-ray diffractometry, chemical analyzes by MEV-EDS and electron microprobe, and optical properties.
