Abstract

The main goal of this undergraduate project is to study and analyse quantitatively the effects due to tidal forces and dynamical friction in galaxies member of groups and clusters. These effects impact directly galaxy evolution and contribute to the formation of giant galaxies in the center of clusters. Also, tidal forces feed the intracluster medium with stars, observable as a diffuse light between the galaxies. We will use semi-analytical and N-body simulations to model the tidal forces and dynamical friction on galaxies.
