Abstract

The main goal of this work to study and analyze quantitatively the effects due to tidal stripping and dynamical friction in dynamical extragalactic systems such as, for example, galaxies en clusters, globular cluster orbits and galaxy mergers. These dynamical processes have an impact on the evolution of these objects and contribute to several phenomena such as the formation of giant cD type galaxies, orbit decay of globular clusters and dwarf galaxies, truncation of the density profile of galaxies in clusters and formation of an intra-cluster medium of stars (the diffuse light between galaxies in clusters). Our approach will be to semi-analytically model some of these phenomena that will be computed using hydrodynamic $N$-body simulations and compared to publicly available observations. (AU)
