Abstract

Within the present project, we will analyze the quasi-normal modes of compact stars using an equation of state which has been obtained within non-relativistic many-body theory, using an updated and improved version of the effective interaction based on the Argonne-Urbana nuclear Hamiltonian, derived using the formalism of correlated basis functions and the cluster expansion technique. The main goal is to devise a way of extracting information on the equation of state of neutron stars from observations of its gravitational wave emission, in particular the frequencies and damping times of its quasi-normal modes.
