Abstract

The objective of this Project (BEPE) is promoting a complementation of the Scientific Initiation Research supported by FAPESP (Process 2018/19938-2). In this research, we analyses the ways of manifestation of violence in the ancient novel The golden ass, by Apuleius. We use, as a way of interpretation, the final sentence of the first paragraph from Book I, Lector intende: laetaberis (APULEIO, 1965). Through this sentence, we try to verify how the sensation of satisfaction verbally indicated by the narrator with the verb laetaberis is possible and in what way (s) violence is produced, since the entire Apuleian narrative is permeated by the expression of violence in its multiple forms, which shows the significant complexity and plurality of the novel. In this way, we intend, supported by this project (BEPE), expand and refine our reflections about this novel, both in consideration of its composition and in relation of its thematic. To do so, is important for us to search more bibliography about studies produced related to Roman ancient novel, The golden ass, Apuleius and the phenomenon of violence. Besides that, we expect a broad theoretical and scientific gain to the Scientific Initiation Research under development in Brazil, based on the contributions of the foreign Advisor, expert in both the ancient Roman novel and the proposed theme.
