Abstract

Cnidocysts are focus of studies in several aspects, specially related to taxonomy. The use of cnidome in taxonomic studies can be controversial, because the consistency of the size as a usable character was not tested in major groups of the cnidarian lineages, however, cnidome is base for several studies to help in species identification and discussion on taxonomic limits. There is a poor knowledge about this approach in several other Anthozoan groups, including the subclass Ceriantharia. The present project aims to verify if the variation of the composition and size of cnidae is consistent in each body region in Ceriantharia in a comparative perspective. The cnidome of Cerianthus sp. 1 will be analyzed, in several body regions, each one divided in three different regions (tip, median portion and base). All statistical tests will be made using R program. A new algorithm to R program for the analysis of statistical data will be proposed and tested. With the results, we can see if there are expressive differences in the individuals of Cerianthus sp. 1 and Ceriantheomorphe brasiliensis. (AU)
