Abstract

The air pollution emission on atmosphere is directly connected with several factors on the present world, one of them is the urban mobility. In large urban centers, vehicles are described as the main responsible for pollutants' emissions. On the other hand, rail transportation does not emit pollutants directly, thus they are less polluter than vehicles. In São Paulo Metropolitan Region, it is possible to analyze the relation of the advance of the rail transportation with air quality and identify the impacts. Therefore, the objectives of this research are to identify the environmental, social, economic and health impacts associated to the expansion of the rail transportation expansion in São Paulo Metropolitan Region and investigate how this network expansion influence air quality. In order to analyze the association with air quality we will collect data provided from CETESB through the software QGIS so that to obtain a better comprehension of the benefits of the rail transportation expansion in the environment and health field, resulting in incentives for the network expansion.
