Meditation in undergraduate classrooms at the public university

Abstract

Some researches have carried out meditation interventions in higher education and have demonstrated several benefits, such as better concentration, relaxation and well-being among university students (MAGEE, 2010, MENEZES, FIORENTIN and BIZARRO, 2012). Nevertheless, such research is still scarce (SHAPIRO, BROWN and ASTIN, 2008, 24). Therefore, the present project aims to propose guided meditation (silent and with body posture adapted to the chair in the classroom) of 5-10 minutes for two semesters in classrooms for undergraduate students of various courses at the University State of Campinas (UNICAMP). It is sought to investigate based on a literature review on meditation and body studies (GREINER, 2005; DAMASIO, 2004; QUILICI, 2018), to what meditation can provide a more harmonious relationship between the body and the students' mind, since there is a strong separation between body and mind in the university (MOURA, 2010). The collection of results will consist of a methodological triangulation (FLICK, 2009, p.361), which will use anonymous questionnaires, painting anonymous drawings and talk wheels with the students, as well as making a research daily by the researcher herself. It is intended to broaden the body's studies in the educational field, investigating the reflections and the impacts that the meditative practice can bring to higher education. (AU)
