Abstract

The research under development is titled From Land to Hell: A journey through the narratives of Almeida Garrett and António Lobo Antunes and has for purposes of analysis the Portuguese works Viagens na minha terra (1846) by Almeida Garrett and Conhecimento do inferno (1980) de António Lobo Antunes. The objective of the research has been to understand the symbolic dimension of the geographical journeys undertaken by the authors' homonymous narrators, as well as the way in which they seem to govern other journeys, these being autobiographical-fictional, as they point to love life and activity literary of the narrators-protagonists, and historical-critics, for proposing a problematizing reading of nineteenth-century Portugal and the post-colonial. The following project, derived from the research in question, aims at the request of a Research Exchange Abroad (Portugal), considering that a stay in the country would contribute a lot to the maturing of the research as it would allow the researcher not only to have access to bibliographical references not available in Brazil, as well as having the supervision of Prof. Dr. Ana Paula Arnault, specialist in Contemporary Portuguese Literature and professor at the University of Coimbra.
