Abstract

To identify wether infants of low socioeconomic level will present risks for delays in the domains of motor behavior such as: variation, adaptability, fluency, symmetry and motor performance at 3, 4, 5, 6, 7 and 8 months old. Methodology: A longitudinal study will be made, with sampling of convenience. These 60 infants of low socioeconomic level and infants of medium and high socioeconomic level will be evaluated and divided into two groups of 3, 4, 5 and 6 months old. This study will take into account the motor behavior, which will be evaluated through the Infant Motor Profile (IMP), an instrument of unprecedented evaluation in Brazil, with a greater potential to identify delays in motor behavior which can be used as parameters to indicate the neurological integrity of the infants. The following dependent variables will be considered: variation, adaptability, symmetry, fluency and motor performance. Expected results: Through the IMP, it is expected to identify early delays in the motor behavior of infants of low socioeconomic level, compared to infants of medium and high socioeconomic level. Since infants develop motor, physical, mental, and social functions through environmental stimulus, infants with low socioeconomic status is likely to have fewer opportunities and incentives to develop their motor skills.
