Abstract

The diabetes mellitus type II (DM type II) is a multifactorial disease that affects about 8.8% of the world population. Its prevalence is higher in elderly individuals, since aging promotes a decrease in physiological and cellular functions. DM is a metabolic disease characterized by persistent hyperglycemia or insulin resistance, when uncontrolled it progresses to cardiorenal syndrome, a combination of cardiac changes and renal function. Besides these alterations, there is also the presence of inflammation and the increase of the oxidative stress, which potentiates the vicious cycle of the disease and decreases the life expectancy of the diabetic. The aim of this project is to study candidates for early molecular markers of cardiorenal syndrome, inflammation and oxidative stress (BNP, ANP, TNF-±, IL-6, CAT, GPX and SOD) and to associate the expression of these genes with time of exposure to DM. The experimental model of DM induced by aloxana in Wistar rats will be used. The animals will be divided into: 7-day diabetic rats (DM7), 30-day diabetic rats (DM30), 7-day sham control (CS7) and 30-day sham control (CS30) and samples will be collected 7 and 30 days after confirmation of the DM appearance. For gene expression we will use samples of peripheral blood and brain that will be collected on the day of euthanasia.
