Abstract

This project aims to introduce the student to collision simulation methods in nuclear and particle physics experiments through programs known as event generators. This type of generator simulates the event, ie the collision and its aftermath, using Monte Carlo methods. The program adopted in this project is Pythia 8, built on C++ programming language. The simulations will motivate the introduction of basic concepts in special relativity, quantum mechanics, statistics and an overview of the Standard Model of Elementary Particles. It is expected at the end of the project that the student has acquired the ability to run the program by generating some classes of events and be able to make simplified data analysis of the results obtained, being able, for example, to obtain some production cross sections and efficiency estimates of event triggers.
