Abstract

This undergraduate project aims to introduce the student to a very relevant field of research, high-energy particle physics, adding to the scientific knowledge of the student and already preparing her for a successful graduate program. The proposal is to study theories and models used to understand experimental results from the LHC. Among the various practical activities foreseen in this project, the student will get to know event generators and simulators that reproduce measurements from the LHC as well as data analysis techniques commonly employed in the field. The student is expected to familiarize herself with the physical processes that influence experimental observables and how some experimental considerations influence the interpretation of experimental results. Among the various physical processes that can be studied, we highlight fragmentation and the production of hets, ultra-relativistic hydrodynamic models and statistical hadronization models. This project will be conducted inside the ‘Grupo de Física Hadrônica Experimental' (HadrEx) at UNICAMP, and it is worth noting that this group is very active in the ALICE experiment at the LHC. Furthermore, because this project is very closely connected to the research already performed in the group, there will be wide support from other group members, such as masters and PhD students and post-docs.
