Abstract

The interrelationship between systemic changes with the development and progression of oral infections such as apical periodontitis has been the object of intense studies in recent years, especially by our research group. Objective: The objective of this study will be evaluate the effect of Liver Fibrosis (LF) on the development of Apical Periodontitis (AP) in an animal model. Methods: Will be used forty Winstar rats divided into 4 groups (n = 10): Group C - control rats; Group LF - mice bearing LF; Group AP - mice bearing AP; LF + AP group - rats bearing LF and AP. LF will be induced chemically and surgically. Carbon tetrachloride (CCl4) will be given at a dosage of 0.2ml / 100g body weight, twice weekly, intraperitoneally, and throughout the experiment (60 days). After 30 days of initiation of drug administration, a bile duct ligation surgical procedure will be performed. Next, AP will be induced by means of pulp exposure of the first and second upper and lower right molars. After another 30 days the rats will be euthanized and the jaws, as well as the livers, will be collected for light microscopy analysis. The hepatic tissue will be analyzed in H.E. and Picrosírios red staining to confirm hepatic fibrosis. The jaws will be processed for histological analysis in H.E and immunohistochemistry for IL-6. Analysis of results: The results will be analyzed and compared by statistical tests with a significance level of 5% (p <0.05). (AU)
