Abstract

Early detection of cancer is essential to increase the chance of cure, but unfortunately for many types of cancer there are no efficient methodologies at low cost. This project aims to develop biosensors for the early detection of colorectal and thyroid cancer by detecting the BRAF-V600E biomarker. Binary metal oxides synthesized with the coprecipitation method will be used to construct the architecture of the films to increase the specificity of the biosensor and the detection signal. The films will be constructed using physical and chemical self-assembling techniques, in multilayers with controlled order and thickness. The optimization of film fabrication conditions and characterization of nanostructures will be carried out with various experimental techniques, including electronic and vibrational spectroscopies, polarization-modulated infrared reflection absorption spectroscopy (PM-IRRAS) and microscopy techniques. The detection of the analyte will be performed through measurements of electrochemical impedance in standard solutions. The aim is to obtain low cost sensors with fast response and high sensitivity for the biomarker. (AU)
