Abstract

The atmospheric CO2 concentration is increasing year by year. This scenario imposes severe changes in the metabolism of several plant species. Understanding how proteins and peptides act as signals in plant organisms may assist in Genetic Engineering strategies that aim to increase plant yield. The goal of the present proposal is to identify proteins and peptides that act as signals in the Eucalyptus plant sap when individuals are challenged by high CO2 concentrations. For that, plant species will be cultivated in different atmospheric CO2 levels and the proteome from the plant sap will be unveiled. Quality controls and enrichment markers will be used prior to biological inferences. Discovery-driven proteomics will be carried out in order to identify the proteome and the proteome changes imposed by CO2 stimulus. Additionally, sucrose content in the plant sap will be evaluated and used as a reference of the photosynthetic activity and carbon assimilation rates. (AU)
