Abstract

The extensive use of fossils fuels led to a significantly concentration of SO2, a poisonous species, in the atmosphere. In a search to reduce its presence in breathable air and to pursue more ecological ways of obtaining energy, it is proposed the SO2 oxidation reaction to H2SO4 generating H2 as side product, a clean and efficient fuel. The reaction presents an oscillatory dynamics due to the formation of catalytic poisons on Au in HClO4 containing media. The formation/consumption of these poisonous species can be followed over time by ATR-FTIR spectroelectrochemical set up and since oscillatory behavior is present, spatial 2D resolution can provide information related to the reaction's chaotic behavior.
