Abstract In this Scientific Initiation project we are going to review how neutrinos have helped to establish the Standard Model of elementary particles and how today neutrino oscillations present one of the few evidences of physics beyond the Standard Model. We are going to start by introducing the experimental reasons and basic ideas that lead to the Standard Model. After that we are going to study how the Standard Model can be understood from a quantum theory point of view in order to be able to discuss the mass mechanism in the Standard Model and why neutrinos cannot have a mass in the context of this model. We will then be able to understand how this can be cure in order to explain neutrino oscillation which have been experimentally observed by many experiments. Our goal is that in the end of this project the student will be prepared to a graduation in Elementary Particles Phenomenology or correlated areas. (AU) | |
