Abstract

This research project aims at the fabrication of platinum microelectrodes which will be used as electrochemical sensors for NO detection. In order to improve the sensitivity of the analytical determinations, strategies involving the platinization of the microelectrode surface will be investigated. Since NO coexists with other electroactive compounds in biological fluids, protocols for sensor surface protection will be examined to avoid the diffusion of interfering species to the electrode surface. Calibration curves will be prepared to establish a correlation between current response and NO concentration in solution. Other relevant analytical parameters such as repeatability, reproducibility and detection limit will also be determined for the evaluation of the sensor performance.
