Comparative evaluation of the incidence of inferior alveolar nerve paresthesia using articaine and mepivacaine in lower third molar surgeries

Abstract

This randomized, double-blind, crossover, stopped clinical trial aims to evaluate the incidence of postoperative pain and paraesthesia with two types of local anesthetics, articaine and mepivacaine. A comparative study to evaluate the incidence of paresthesia between two anesthetics has not yet been performed in separate groups employed alone. For this, 20 individuals of both genders, between 16 and 35 years old, without local or systemic pathologies, having bilateral retained lower third molars, in similar positions, selected and submitted to surgery to remove them. A surgical intervention will always be performed by the same operator, with administration of an anesthetic on each side, which will be chosen at random, defined by Excel 2018. Paracetamol 500 mg tablets are prescribed as medication for escape analgesia. Pain will be assessed by visual scale at 11 points within 24 hours postoperatively. A paresthesia, if present, will be available at 7 postoperative days. All data will be submitted to statistical analysis, considering the significance level of 5%.
