Abstract

A native Brazilian plant of the species Baccharis dracunculifolia, also known as green propolis, was used as a folk remedy. A chemical composition of propolis is quite complex and varied, including intimately useful with the flora ecology of each region visited by the bees and the resin collection period. The bioactive components of B. dracunculifolia have attracted the attention of researchers due to biological activities such as antimicrobial, antioxidant and antitumor. However, there is nothing described about the production of lipid mediators and inflammasome involvement during an anti-inflammatory response of B. dracunculifolia plant compounds. Thus, in this project of scientific initiation, we aim to: (I) evaluate an anti-inflammatory activity of the chemical compounds, coumaric acid and baccharine, of the species Baccharis dracunculifolia against inflammatory stimuli; (II) to investigate the production of cytokines and lipid mediators, as well as the participation of the transcription factor NF-kB and the activation of the inflammasome. Expect to find a new therapeutic tool for the model of inflammatory diseases.
