Abstract

Earlier studies from our laboratory showed that young rats subjected to sustained hypoxia (HM - 24 hours - FiO2 = 0.1) had significant elevations in blood pressure, which were related to changes in sympathetic-respiratory coupling. Considering that the results in the literature regarding cardiovascular and respiratory alterations in mice submitted to hypoxic models are very varied, due to the different protocols of hypoxic challenges used, in the present project we will initially make a complete characterization of cardiovascular and respiratory alterations in mice. Submitted to the HM protocol that we used in our laboratory for the last 10 years for rats. The results to be obtained with the mice will be a first determining step to establish the appropriate MH protocol to promote cardiovascular and respiratory alterations similar to those observed in rats. Autonomic and respiratory responses to baro-and chemoreflex activation in mice subjected to sustained hypoxia will also be evaluated. (AU)
