Abstract

There is a huge shortage of data on emergency care patient care throughout Brazil. This lack of data is even more evident when we focus attention on the elderly population. In this project, we aim to identify the population of patients seeking an Emergency Service, particularly those over 60, their clinical and laboratory differences from younger populations, and to assess whether severity scores that are used for the general population maintain their accuracy. in the elderly population. This will be a retrospective, exploratory study, from which it will be possible to trace the profile of patients, specifically the elderly, who come to an emergency service with severe clinical picture, identifying the characteristics associated with the need for hospitalization.Initially we will build a database with all patients treated at the Emergency Service of the Hospital das Clínicas FMUSP, in 2015 (when the electronic medical record was implemented in the service) to 2019. Thus, we will have a descriptive statistical analysis, with the most common diagnoses in each age group (18 to 59 years, 60 to 79 years or above 80 years) and observing the outcome (discharge, mortality during hospitalization).Next, we will correlate the Risk Classification performed at the initial care with the patient's outcome. This analysis will take into account the age groups described above. Then, patients diagnosed with sepsis will be separated. Our main objective is to identify characteristics in the elderly groups that may signal an unfavorable outcome upon admission to the Service and to assess whether current instruments for detecting organ dysfunction and diagnosing sepsis (eg qSOFA) maintain their accuracy in the older population. .The necessary statistical analyzes are quite sophisticated and will allow us very reliable conclusions about our data.We believe that this project can provide fundamental information on the care of patients in emergency services and show the need to create national guidelines for specialized and individualized care of the geriatric population in the Unified Health System.
