This work proposes a study about the social function of Nossa Senhora d'Ajuda settlements, in Itaquaquecetuba, along with the territorial occupation process of the upland of the captaincy of São Vicente between 1560 and 1640. This settlement, whose creation is commonly attributed to the missionary pilgrimages of José de Anchieta in 1560, undergoes significant transformations at the turn of the century until be transferred to the possession of Jesus's company in the middle of 1640. Belonging to the villa of Santa Ana from Mogi das Cruzes after your foundation in 1611, it has your chapel built at the terms of the sesmaria from the Father João Álvares, an active member of the secular clergy, who actuation on the settlements at the region is distinguished in a context of the highlight of the bandeirante expeditions.
