Abstract

Lower back pain, the most prevalent musculoskeletal disorder, is common in individuals with postural alterations, which has a high incidence in university students. Instability and weakness of the trunk muscles are determinant in the presence of lumbar pain. Objectives: Identify if postural alterations in university students with and without complaint of lumbar pain and resistance of the trunk stabilizers muscles are related. Method: The sample will be made up of female individuals, selected at the Faculdade de Filosoa e Ciências from UNESP, Marília campus, between 18 and 30 years of age, and BMI between 18.5 and 30. They will be separated into: group with low back pain, with an episode of nonspecific lumbar pain in the last three months, and control group. To know the sample size required for the study, G * Power software will be used. Each volunteer will be recruited for two days to the Musculoskeletal Evaluation Laboratory of UNESP, Marília. On the first day, the volunteer will answer the anamnesis and the International Physical Activity Questionnaire-short version (IPAQ), and posture will be evaluated by photogrammetry, using the Kinovea software, in the frontal and sagittal planes. On the second day, the volunteer will do the flexor endurance test, back extensors test, lateral musculature test, prone bridge test, supine bridge test, and the lumbar traction will be evaluated using the traction dynamometer. PASW Statistics 18.0 (SPSS) will be used for statistical analysis, and in all statistical tests significance level of P < 0.05 will be applied.
