Abstract

Ozone therapy acts in the body to cause a controlled oxidative stress, inducing the improvement of antioxidant, immune and circulatory response, which seems to help in infectious and inflammatory processes. However, very little is known about how ozone therapy affects the physiological parameters of animals, and further study is needed to prove their safety. This type of evaluation is necessary to understand the pathophysiological mechanisms caused by ozone therapy in the body, starting point for this therapy to be recommended as a safe and effective treatment. In this context, the present project will aim to evaluate the clinical, hematological and biochemical parameters of healthy dogs submitted to rectal insufflation ozone therapy. To this end, 9 healthy dogs will undergo 4 rectal insufflation ozone applications at weekly intervals with sample collection for laboratory evaluation twice a week. Hematological analyzes will be performed on an automated veterinary cell counter with differential leukocyte count and morphological analysis on blood smear under optical microscopy. Biochemical analyzes will be performed on a semi-automated photocolorimeter using a set of commercial reagents. The variables will be tested for normality and the differences between the moments will be verified by repeated measures ANOVA and Tukey or Friedmann post-Dunn post-test, being considered significant when p <0.05.
